I work for Panopto which is a software recording application / service that can record desktop audio and video as well as PowerPoint/Keynote and additional camera inputs. However if I play audio from the macOS Apple Music application, audio plays just fine without issue. I'm not hearing any audio from the iPhone source. So I enable my iPhone as the input and then open up System Prefs to select my USB (or audio 3.5mm jack) as the output. I open up the 'Audio Midi Setup' application compiled by Apple and the application see's my iPhone as an input. I've got a Mac Mini (Macmini8,1) where I have connected my iPhone XR to my Mac Mini via Lighting to USB.
